Abution Vitifolium is the hardiest of these lovely shrubs, good for growing against a wall or as a free-standing specimen in a sheltered spot. Showy saucer shaped mauve to lilac flowers are produced spring into early summer and sometimes later. It is deciduous, so loses its felted grey green leaves in winter. Now known as Corynabutilon Vitifolium.
Hardy to around -5C or perhaps even lower. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. To 350 cm.
Rob has grown this lovely shrub in locations as different as against the warm wall of a stone-built cottage in Devon and as a free standing specimen in a Cambridgeshire garden (and there it can get pretty cold in winter!).
Abutilon Vitifolium is a fairly hardy evergreen shrub with grey green foliage and mauve saucer shaped flowers in spring and summer.
Abutilon Vitifolium is available from Paddock Plants.
