ABUTILON PENANG
Named after the Malaysian state, Penang is a delightful compact cultivar, growing in a low spreading fashion and topping out at around 50 cm. Its warm orange flowers with red conspicuous red veins and russet tinged calyx are as charming as they are numerous. We’re tempted to describe them as chubby for lack of a better word (you’ll see what we mean, we are sure).
Hardy to around 0C to -5C. Sun or semi-shade. Any reasonable soil. 30 cm to 50 cm.
We originally sourced Abutilon Penang from the holders of the national collection: it is a T3 introduction from 2009.
Abutilon Penang is a half hardy evergreen shrub with maple like foliage and pendant red-veined orange bell shaped flowers in spring, summer and autumn.
